Everything Kitchen Plumbing Covers
One sink, a dozen failure points.
Kitchen plumbing centers on the sink base: the faucet and sprayer up top; the supply lines, angle stops, and shutoff valves below; the garbage disposal (if you have one); the dishwasher’s drain and water connections; and the drain assembly — strainer, tailpiece, P-trap, and the branch to the wall. Add the refrigerator’s ice-maker line and, in some kitchens, a pot-filler or instant-hot dispenser, and the “simple” kitchen is anything but.
Kitchens fail in characteristic ways. The drain clogs with grease and food debris — the number-one kitchen call. Supply connections weep into the cabinet and go unnoticed until the cabinet floor is ruined. Disposals jam or leak. Dishwasher connections back up or leak. Faucets drip, sprayers stop retracting, and the whole assembly ages faster than bathroom fixtures because it simply works harder.
This page is the hub for kitchen fixtures and their connections. For stubborn kitchen clogs specifically, see drain cleaning; for a single failed part, plumbing repair; for appliance water lines, keep reading — they’re covered here.
